Getting Back to Our Roots!

As I continue to recover and finally find myself having more good days, with my pain much better controlled, I'm excited to say that returning to work is becoming a reality!

With that comes some important changes for Melton's Produce Shack.

After a lot of thought and reflection, I've decided it's time to get back to our roots and embrace the simple, old-fashioned farmstand we originally envisioned.

When we started Melton's Produce Shack, our purpose was simple: share what we grew right here on our own land and offer fresh, affordable produce sourced from real local farmers.

Somewhere along the way, we began expanding. More products, more inventory, more services, more commitments. Like many small farmstands, we began purchasing produce from outside our community to keep our shelves full year-round.

While that allowed us to offer more variety and convenience, it also took us further away from what made this little stand special in the first place.

And I've realized that bigger isn't necessarily better.

So, effective immediately, we're making some significant changes!

• 🌱 LOCAL MEANS LOCAL. Going forward, our produce will come from our own gardens or from local farmers who grow what they sell. If it isn't in season or available locally, we simply won't have it. And that's perfectly okay!
• 🌱 SEASONAL MEANS SEASONAL. We're returning to the natural rhythm of farming. Our shelves won't always be full, our selection will change with the seasons, and availability will depend on what is actually growing.
• 🌱 LESS RETAIL, MORE ROOTS. We'll be selling through our remaining retail inventory and stepping away from out-of-season produce, baked goods, and other products that don't align with our original farmstand mission.
• 🌱 NO MORE BULK ORDERS OR BASKET SUBSCRIPTIONS. All existing orders for next week will be fulfilled, but these services will then be discontinued.
• 🌱 SIMPLER OPERATIONS. We will not be expanding our product lines, accepting new special projects, or pursuing additional business partnerships. Our website will be updated to reflect these changes, and we'll be stepping away from the constant social media updates and daily inventory announcements.

We're also looking forward to honoring our existing commitments and enjoying the holiday events we already have planned!

What won't change?

Our appreciation for local agriculture, our commitment to affordable produce, and our belief that small farms and farmstands serve an important purpose in rural communities.

I am incredibly grateful for every customer, farmer, friend, and neighbor who has supported Melton's Produce Shack. This little adventure has brought so many wonderful people into our lives, along with lessons and memories I'll always cherish.

But I'm learning something important through my own recovery:

Not everything needs to grow. Sometimes the best thing we can do is simplify, slow down, and appreciate what we already have.

A farmstand doesn't need to be a grocery store. It doesn't need to have everything, all the time. Sometimes it's just a roadside stand with a few baskets of fresh vegetables, an honor box, and a little handwritten sign.

And quite frankly, that sounds pretty wonderful to me.

Here's to a slower pace, stronger local roots, and getting back to what matters.

Simple. Seasonal. Local. Just like it was meant to be.
